Hatubuilico Tourism Group Strengthens Community Development Through Local Initiatives

Hatubuilico, Timor-Leste — In the heart of the mountains of Hatubuilico, a small but determined community is creating new opportunities through faith, tourism, and hard work. Led by Merlinda de Araujo Mota, the Hatubuilico Tourism Group is proving that when people unite with purpose, great things can happen.
With 25 dedicated members, the group manages a variety of tourism activities, including home stays, a restaurant, local fashion (moda), the sacred Santuário Nain Feto Ramelau site, and religious events that attract visitors from across the country. Their efforts blend culture, spirituality, and hospitality — making Hatubuilico a unique destination for those seeking both adventure and reflection.
Starting with $1,000 in support, the group has built three cozy home stay units to welcome guests visiting Mount Ramelau. They have since grown their group assets to $1,000, showing that even small beginnings can lead to strong community foundations. Their workplace is now ready, symbolizing progress and shared achievement.
President Merlinda shared her hope that this initiative will continue to bring blessings to the community:
“Tourism is not just about business — it’s about connection, culture, and care for our home,” she said.
As Hatubuilico continues to open its doors to visitors, the group’s journey stands as a beautiful example of how faith and cooperation can turn local dreams into lasting impact.
