Inter-Religious Festival and Vocal Group Competition for Children Announced

Dili, October 29, 2022 – The Timor-Leste Religious Tourism Association (ATR-TL), in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister and the Civil Society Support Service and Social Audit (SASCAS), is set to organize an Inter-Religious Festival featuring a Vocal Group Competition for children aged 7 to 15 years. Participants will include students from Basic Education Schools (SD and SMP) and various community groups within parishes and churches, representing five (5) different religions recognized by ATR-TL.

The event aims to achieve the following objectives:

  1. To promote musical talent and develop the character of children, fostering values of Trust, Unity, Friendship, and Nature (FUAN).
  2. To reinforce peace and tolerance based on the core values of each religion and the principles of human fraternity.
  3. To celebrate National Youth Day on November 12 and the Unilateral Proclamation of Independence of Timor-Leste on November 28, 2022, instilling values of nationalism and patriotism in children and preparing them to be proud citizens of Timor-Leste while promoting coexistence in a global community.

The official launch of this event was determined during a meeting of ATR-TL leaders on October 28, 2022, at the ATR-TL headquarters in Vila Verde, Dili.

The meeting was chaired by ATR-TL President Father Angelo Salsinha and attended by representatives including Mr. Haji Abdullah Sagran, Mr. Haji Inacio (Islam), Mr. Orlando Petruz (Protestant Church), Ms. Teresinha (Hindu), and Ms. Adela (Confucianism). The session was moderated by ATR-TL Executive Director Dr. Manuel Vong, PhD, with presentations from local consultant and event coordinator Brother Filomeno, Secretary Brother Efraim, and Program Coordinator Sister Lidia, along with members of the secretariat and local consultants from the respective religions.
